DECA STATE
The past weekend I spent three days competing in DeKalb, Illinois for the DECA State competition. You may be wondering in your mind what is DECA? Well I am about to tell you. DECA is a business club that we have in GBN. This club enhances your knowledge of the business world. Some things that you do during a competition include: receive a business scenario and come up with a distinguishing solution to their problem, take a test on the economy, and another test depending on your category. You may also do extra projects and other written events if you are interested and you have a higher possibility of making it to National DECA which is in Orlando, Florida this year. I was fortunate enough to get past Regionals and go to State, but unfortunately I did not make it to Nationals. Thirty students from our school qualified for State and we headed to DeKalb on Thursday morning and returned Saturday night. There was a banquet and also other social events so it wasn’t just business. Overall, I would say that the experience was one that I will never forget. I really enjoyed going and I wish to go next year too. Even though I didn’t make it to Nationals this year I will try my best to go next year. A few of my friends also tagged along which made the trip much more fantastic.

The Busy Life of a High School Student
Have you ever gone on vacation in the middle of the school year and missed about 7 days of school? Well, I have. During my vacation, my mind was mainly on all the homework assignments that I had to makeup. I really couldn’t enjoy my vacation to fullest because my mind was still at Glenbrook North High School. The process of making up work is long and overwhelming. Before going on vacation, I asked all of my teachers to give me the assignments that I need to do. Only some of the teachers gave me the assignments and the work that I needed to do. As I was packing my bags with all the work that I needed to complete, a conflict came upon me. My parents told me that I wasn’t allowed to bring heavy textbooks in the bag. I thought my life was going to end the second I heard this from their mouths. Eventually, I only brought a few packets from my English class to my vacation. On my vacation I was really busy almost all the time. I attended 2 wedding ceremonies and went to other places. I was expecting to go to school the day that I came back, but another conflict had hit me. My flight was delayed. I was going to have to go to school only the next day I came back, which allowed me to be able to do my homework and finish all the work even though I was really tired. Catching up with all my classes and making up all my tests took me several days, but with motivation and confidence I was able to accomplish this task.

Texting
Like many people, I am a person who texts at a daily basis. I think that I am a text addict because I text everyday! In one day I send about 50 texts. This is ridiculous. I think I usually reflect on what I do which may help me understand myself better. Therefore, texting may be a good thing, or maybe that is what I want to believe. I think that texting may be a distraction for me from my studies. I think that I am addicted to texting and it would be hard for me to stop. I think texting is just more convenient than calling someone on the phone. Instead of calling my parents, I text them if I need to reach them because of the convenience.
The Return of Lil Wayne
Lil Wayne, who has been in jail for the last eight months, will be out of jail by November 4. He went to jail for drug possession. He is one of my favorite rappers. I know a lot of songs by him. I read an article that said that he will be coming back and he will be better than ever. In the article it was talking about how he can’t wait to get out of jail and get back on stage. He looks out in the window and waits for the day that he will get out of jail. Many of his friends came and visited him some of them being Drake, Diddy, and Fat Joe. Below are the articles that I read that may have more information on the topic.
Ipod in the Car.
Have you ever been in the situation where you want to listen to good music in the car but the radio isn’t playing the music that you desire? Well I have been in that same situation. I know that many people use IPods and other electronics which contain music that you love. I also want to listen to songs on my IPod in the car. I found out that there is a solution to my problem. I was with my friend in his car and he was playing music from his IPod. I was astonished and I found out that you can do that if you buy an fm transmitter or a cassette adaptor. The fm transmitter is pretty cool because you can charge your IPod while listening to it in the car which allows you to have a longer satisfaction time. The cassette adaptor may be better for those people who have cassette players in their cars. I told my friend about it and he went out and bought it and he is proud that he did. Below pictures of a cassette adaptor (top) and a fm transmitter (bottom).

Vacation in India
Last year my family and I went on our annual trip to India. My parents grew up in India. I had a lot of fun when I was there. I have a lot of first cousins there. I usually stay with my cousins at their house when I am there. The reason I like going to India is because we go somewhere every day. I am a type of person who doesn’t like sitting home, but rather go out and do anything else but sit home. Since we don’t have a lot of time on our hands we have to do everything quickly so we will be able to do everything we want to do. My favorite part about India is the big amusement park. I love going there with my family and cousins. It is so much fun spending the whole day there. My least favorite part about India is leaving India. This is a stage filled with grief because I will miss my grandma and my other relatives. Also, the long plane ride back is really dreadful and long. I am going back to India in December and will return in January for my cousin’s wedding. I am really looking forward to this trip because I have never celebrated Christmas in India and I am really excited for my cousin’s wedding.

Problems with using Facebook and other social networking websites.
Facebook and other social networking websites result in many problems for many students. For students who are in school, Facebook is a distraction for them and many of these students don’t do their homework and procrastinate. These students may want to chat with their friends rather than studying for a test or something and this can lead to stress and other problems. This distraction can really affect your grade on your report card and it can also cause problems at your home. These are only a few reasons why students can get harmed by using Facebook and other social networking sites.
