DECA STATE

The past weekend I spent three days competing in DeKalb, Illinois for the DECA State competition. You may be wondering in your mind what is DECA? Well I am about to tell you. DECA is a business club that we have in GBN. This club enhances your knowledge of the business world. Some things that you do during a competition include:  receive a business scenario and come up with a distinguishing solution to their problem, take a test on the economy, and another test depending on your category. You may also do extra projects and other written events if you are interested and you have a higher possibility of making it to National DECA which is in Orlando, Florida this year. I was fortunate enough to get past Regionals and go to State, but unfortunately I did not make it to Nationals. Thirty students from our school qualified for State and we headed to DeKalb on Thursday morning and returned Saturday night. There was a banquet and also other social events so it wasn’t just business. Overall, I would say that the experience was one that I will never forget. I really enjoyed going and I wish to go next year too. Even though I didn’t make it to Nationals this year I will try my best to go next year. A few of my friends also tagged along which made the trip much more fantastic.

  2. I always wondered what DECA even does, thanks for enlightening me Tijo! Congratulations on making it to state!! I was wondering: did anyone from our school make it to the conference in Florida? DECA seems pretty interesting; do you guys only work with competition stuff? I was actually thinking about joining it last year, but I wasn’t sure if it was the right fit for me. Maybe you could tell me more about it during class one day. It’s funny how students don’t even realize how many opportunities GBN gives students if they’re willing to take the chance. Nice to see that you did!
